Every set planned from your last one.

SmarterSets plans your training blocks, tells you the weight and how many reps to leave in the tank, and adjusts your sets every week from how you actually recover.

A comfortable start: stop with 3 reps left. Your first sets teach the app your real strength.

How a block runs

  1. Tell it about you

Your goal, how long you've trained, any joints that bother you, and exactly what equipment you have. Age and sex are optional.

  2. Pick a plan

It recommends training blocks that fit your days, time and equipment, and says why each one suits you. Swap any exercise and see honest pros and cons first.

  3. Train

Every set comes with a weight and how many reps to leave in the tank. Log what you did; after each set you say how close to failure you really got.

  4. It adjusts

After a muscle's last set you rate the pump and how hard it felt; before the next session, how well it recovered. Next week's sets go up, stay or come down from that, muscle by muscle.

  5. Deload, then go again

The block ends with an easy week, sooner if fatigue piles up. The next one starts from everything it learned about you.

What it adjusts, and why

Nothing is a black box. Tap “Why this?” on any exercise and it tells you what it saw in your training and what it changed.

Weights
From your own logged sets: how many reps you did and how many you had left. It learns when you under- or overestimate.
Sets
Per muscle, per week, from how you recovered. Not a fixed template.
Today's session
A quick check-in on sleep, energy and stress can ease the day's targets when you're run down.
Deloads
Planned at the end of each block, or suggested early when performance drops.

Why 82.5 kg?

Last week you did 10 reps at 80 kg and said you had 3 left, so your strength estimate went up. This week the target is 2 left, so the weight rises a step and the reps stay about the same.

An example of the explanations you get in explain mode. Short mode keeps just the numbers.

Questions

What does "reps left in the tank" mean?

How many more reps you could have done when you stopped. Training close to failure is what builds muscle, and stopping a set or two short most weeks lets you recover and keep progressing. The app tells you the target for every set and gradually brings it closer to failure through each block.

I'm new to lifting. Is this for me?

Yes. In explain mode every number comes with a short reason, and each exercise has form cues. If you already know your way around a meso, switch to short mode and it stays out of your way.

Do I need a full gym?

No. You tick exactly what you have, and plans only use that. You can save several places, like a gym and a home setup, and pick where you train each day.

Phone or browser?

Both. The iPhone and Android apps arrive at launch; the same app already runs in any browser at app.smartersets.com, on your phone or computer.

Can I cancel?

Any time, from your account. The 14-day trial is free, and you won't be charged if you cancel before it ends.
